A man identified as Sule Gurmu has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife, Umaima Maidawa, in Bayawa town, Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning, January 14, following a disagreement between the couple. The suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended in Katami town, Sokoto State.
The Executive Chairman of Augie Local Government Area, Hon. Yahaya Muhammad Augie, confirmed the incident and the suspect’s arrest in a statement, condemning the act of domestic violence.
Upon receiving the report, Augie promptly visited Bayawa town with security personnel to assess the situation and ensure an immediate response.
He, alongside officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, supervised the evacuation of the deceased to the General Hospital, Argungu, for proper medical examination and investigation in accordance with due process.
The Chairman also directed security agencies to ensure that the suspect was apprehended swiftly and brought to justice without delay.
Following his directive, officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, launched a coordinated manhunt, which led to the successful arrest of Gurmu at Katami.
