A Grade 1 Area Court in Mararaba, on the Nasarawa State border with Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 37-year-old farmer, Sabiu Salaha, to 28 months imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle.
The Judge, Albert Maga, convicted Salaha on a three-count charge of theft, criminal conspiracy and using charm.
He noted that the convict’s offences contravened sections 97, 217 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The convict had pleaded guilty to the crime upon his arraignment and also pleaded for leniency and mercy.
Salaha was arrested and arraigned for snatching a Bajaj Motorcycle valued at N114,000, belonging to one Abdulwahab Ishaku of One Man Village in Nasarawa State.
Earlier, police prosecutor Friday Adaji, a corporal, said Salaha and Musa, his accomplice, now at large, had stopped Ishaku on the Guruku-Mararaba road on June 20 while Ishaku was riding his motorcycle and snatched it from him.
Adaji said Salaha and Musa drugged Ishaku with some herbal medicine, which made him to fall asleep, and Musa took the motorcycle to an unknown destination before he was later apprehended.
Maga, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.
