A hamlet in Orlu LGA, Imo state, was reportedly attacked by gunmen, with an unconfirmed number of persons slain.
The militants stormed the LGA on Sunday afternoon and opened fire on citizens before being apprehended by security personnel.
The incident, which also resulted in the demolition of structures, reportedly injured several persons, The Cable reports.
Mike Abattem, the Imo police spokesperson, has failed to answer to calls seeking confirmation of the attack.
As a result of the development, the commission has suspended the continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise in the LGA.
