Stella Maris, wife of ailing Nollywood comic actor, John Ikechukwu Okafor popularly known as Mr Ibu, calls out the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, AGN, for lying about providing support to her husband even before his medical condition.
After Mr Ibu and family publicly appealed for financial help in a video via Instagram brought on a storm of criticism against the AGN, accusing them of turning a blind eye to his plight, Kate Henshaw, the AGN’s director of communications vehemently refuted all allegations of neglect.
She said the guild remains committed to supporting its members in times of need, particularly concerning health concerns.
“We are compelled to make this public statement in reaction to the vituperations of some netizens over the health of one of our respected and esteemed members, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu.
“We are not here to join issues with anybody, but we want to set the records straight over the public outcry the guild and his colleagues have abandoned him at his point of need.
“The guild has never abandoned any of its members in need, especially with health interventions. We have been in the forefront of providing necessary support to Mr Ibu even before his health conditions was ever made public.”
But in a twist, Mr. Ibu’s wife declared that the AGN had never offered them support, accusing them of spreading blatant falsehoods.
She revealed that she had neither gotten support from the union prior to her husband’s health challenge and all efforts to reach the Actors Guild proved abortive.
Stella mentioned that it was only after she publicly appealed for support that Emeka Rollas and Kate Henshaw showed up at the hospital to visit her husband in his ailing state.
“I am not happy at all. AGN came to be talking about what they did not do. Why would they come out to say they’ve been supporting my husband from the start when they did not do anything? I called Emeka Rollers, he didn’t answer; I texted, he read the message and did not reply,” she said in part.
