The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday, December 18, in Abuja issued a public alert regarding a recall of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles due to undeclared allergens milk and eggs which pose serious health risks to individuals with allergies or intolerances.
The NAFDAC issued a notification on its official website following a warning from the French Authority (Rappel Conso).
While Indomie remains a popular, convenient staple in many households, NAFDAC noted that the risk of these recalled foreign batches entering Nigeria is low due to the federal ban on noodle imports.
However, potential illicit entry via online purchases or international travel cannot be ruled out.
The NAFDAC Director-General (DG), Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to commence immediate surveillance.
The agency stated, “The official risk of these products entering Nigeria is low due to the import ban.
“However, there remains a need for heightened vigilance to prevent illicit entry or circulation, particularly through international travel and e-commerce platforms.”
The agency has ordered a mop-up exercise across all states to ensure that any stock found within the Nigerian supply chain is confiscated and destroyed.
NAFDAC added that consumers in possession of the product are advised to discard it immediately and report any suspected sales to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the hotline 0800-162-3322.
