The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has officially reunited 11 rescued victims of human trafficking with their home communities in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The handover took place on Sunday in Dutse, the state capital, marking a key step toward restoring the children to their families.
Addressing stakeholders at the handover meeting, the Jigawa State Commander of NAPTIP, Abdulkadir Turajo, disclosed that the victims were intercepted and rescued by agency operatives in Lokoja, Kogi State.
Turajo, who spoke through the command’s Head of Operations, Yunusa Mohammed, explained that all 11 victims are male children aged between seven and 15.
He further noted that the children originate from Tsaba, Kunkurawa and Tsabare villages within Ringim Local Government Area. According to him, the successful transfer of the victims back to Jigawa was made possible through the support of the Jigawa State Ministry for Local Government and Community Development.
Turajo praised the Ringim Local Government Council and the state Ministry for Local Government for their swift collaboration, which he said ensured the timely return of the children to their families. He reaffirmed NAPTIP’s resolve to intensify efforts against human trafficking nationwide through proactive rescue operations, victim identification and family reunification.
The Chairman of Ringim Local Government Area, Badamasi Garba, received the children on behalf of the council and expressed appreciation to NAPTIP for its intervention.
Garba, represented by the council’s Director of Personnel Management, Idana Isah, assured that the local government would prioritize the proper reintegration, care and rehabilitation of the rescued children, while also taking steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
