The National Assembly, NASS, has announced a new resumption date of May 6, 2025, extending its break by one week beyond the previously scheduled April 29 return.
Lawmakers in both the Senate and House of Representatives had initially adjourned plenary on March 27 for the Eid-el-Fitr and Easter holidays, with plans to reconvene on April 29.
However, just over a week to the expected return, the Clerk to the National Assembly, CNA, Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana, issued a statement postponing the resumption. He explained that the shift was to enable legislators join their constituents in celebrating Workers’ Day on May 1.
The announcement was contained in a statement personally signed by Ogunlana and dated Monday, April 21, 2025.
“I am directed to inform Distinguished Senators, Honourable Members, and the general public that the two Houses of the National Assembly have extended the date for the resumption of plenary sessions from Tuesday, 29th April 2025, to Tuesday, 6th May 2025,” it reads.
“This extension allows Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members to participate in the Workers’ Day ceremony and attend to other engagements in their constituencies.
“Distinguished Senators, Honourable Members, and the general public are invited to take note of the new resumption date.”
