The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has refuted recent reports alleging it approved a 40 percent increase in telecom tariffs, labeling the claims as false and misleading.
The Commission made it clear that no such decision has been taken or implemented.
In a statement, the NCC explained that any change in tariffs must go through a thorough process, which includes consultations with industry stakeholders and cost-based studies to assess the impact on consumers and service providers.
It assured that no steps in this direction have been initiated or completed to warrant a tariff hike.
Although telecom operators have previously requested tariff reviews due to rising operational expenses, the NCC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding consumer interests.
