The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has launched a new digital portal designed to simplify and automate the process of obtaining drug integrity tests and visa clearance certificates, marking a significant move toward transparency and efficiency in public service delivery.
The platform, known as the Drug Integrity Test and Visa E-Administration System, was unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja by the NDLEA chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd).
Represented by the agency’s secretary, Shadrach Haruna, Marwa described the system as a paradigm shift in our collective effort to tackle substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
He explained that the online platform aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda and the NDLEA’s dual strategy of reducing both drug supply and demand.
“For years, the process of obtaining a visa clearance certificate required physical appearances and cumbersome paperwork.
“This digital system eliminates delays, human interference, and inefficiencies by automating every stage,” Marwa said.
According to the NDLEA, the platform integrates with partner agencies, enabling applicants to create accounts, book appointments, and complete applications remotely.
Drug test certificates will now be generated immediately, while visa clearance certificates are expected to be processed within three to seven days.
“The portal integrates advanced background checks and verification features to safeguard Nigeria’s international reputation and prevent document falsification.
“It will also allow private medical centres to partner with the agency as accredited test centres,” Marwa added.
He further stated that the system goes beyond visa applicants, catering to institutions, corporations, and individuals such as parents and prospective couples seeking verified drug integrity tests.
“It’s a preventive, non-judgmental initiative that promotes early intervention and rehabilitation, fostering healthier communities and workplaces,” he said.
Marwa called on Nigerians and relevant agencies to adopt the platform, describing its success as a shared responsibility.
The NDLEA has in recent years stepped up its digital transformation efforts to align with global best practices and curb corruption in administrative processes.
The NDLEA visa clearance certificate remains a mandatory requirement for Nigerians travelling to specific countries classified as major drug source or transit nations.
