The commission has also unveiled several farmhouse centres and distributed food and non-food items to many residents of the state.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who performed the foundation laying ceremony yesterday, appealed to the commission and donor agencies to facilitate the project, noting that the state has been playing host to many displaced persons in the Northeast zone.
He said: “The safety and immeasurable security situation of Gombe has exposed it to the influx of troubled Nigerians from the insurgency and banditry torn states like Taraba, Yobe, Adamawa and Bauchi.”
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the NEDC Board, Maj. Gen. Paul Terfa (rtd), said rebuilding Northeast remains the key mandate of the commission.
“The presidential mandate of revamping all vital sectors of the Northeast forms the most integral mission of the NEDC,” he noted.
On his part, the Managing Director of NEDC, Muhammad Goni Alkali, disclosed that the NEDC would establish farm service centres and functional laboratories in the three senatorial zones of the state.
