NMA has warned that the nation is on the verge of a catastrophic Human Resource for Health (HRH) crisis If the current rate of migration of medical and dental professionals to foreign countries is not reversed.
The 63rd Annual General Conference (AGC) and Delegates’ Meeting (DM) of the NMA, which took place in Jalingo, Taraba State, between April 30 and May 7, contained this information.
In order to reverse the ongoing brain drain in the nation and possibly reverse it into brain gain, the doctors tasked the government at all levels with improving political commitment to healthcare financing and providing social amenities.
They urged all levels of government to act swiftly to address the various incidents of violence against healthcare workers by designating the despicable act as a national emergency necessitating immediate action. “
In order to put an end to the violence and protect the rights of healthcare workers, the AGC/DM specifically urged the National and State Houses of Assembly to pass protective laws.
However, the NMA said the AGC/DM also directed management of health institutions to develop appropriate protocols in identifying and handling potential cases of violence, develop effective communication strategy, and promptly report cases of violence to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
