The Nigeria Police Force has unveiled a digitalized Central Motor Registry Information System (CMRIS) to enhance the streamlined management of vehicle information and ownership details.
In a statement issued in Abuja, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, disclosed that the CMRIS was introduced following the revitalization of the Central Motor Registry Unit and the commencement of the first phase of the Stolen Vehicle Report Portal.
He highlighted the challenges associated with the manual registration of vehicle information, which has been in place for about seven decades, and emphasized that the new digitalized CMRIS would address these issues effectively.
The CMRIS is designed to gather additional information from the public about stolen vehicles, ensuring that vehicles registered by the CMR are not stolen.
This initiative aims to enhance the investigation of stolen vehicles and related incidents.
To request NPF CMR services, vehicle owners and the public are required to create a profile on the CMRIS portal at https://cmris.npf.gov.ng/.
The services provided include Motor Vehicle Information, Change of Ownership, Change of Engine/Chassis/Body, Change of Colour, International Motor Vehicle Certificate, International Drivers’ Permit, and more.
The Inspector-General of Police (I-G P) has also directed the discontinuation of manual processing and issuance of all CMR documents and certificates, urging a full transition to the digitalized NPF CMR platform.
Consequently, all previously issued CMR certificates are no longer valid or recognized.
Adejobi, however, urged the public to cooperate with the police, emphasizing that the digitalized CMR platform would provide comprehensive motor vehicle information for proactive actions in crime prevention, detection, investigation, prosecution, and national security efforts.
