The Federal Government of Nigeria is taking steps to advance its domestic drone technology, engaging with representatives from Loong UAV, a China-based global leader in tactical drone solutions.
Dr. Joseph Tegbe, the Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, on Monday, led the Nigerian delegation and stated that the partnership with Loong UAV seeks to bolster Nigeria’s drone technology capabilities while exploring broader avenues for cooperation.
“The cooperation with Loong UAV is expected to bolster Nigeria’s domestic capabilities in drone technology, facilitating access to essential services and commodities in remote or hard-to-reach regions,” Tegbe noted.
“This innovative use of drones could significantly enhance Nigeria’s logistical capabilities, creating new opportunities for economic growth and development.”
He further highlighted that the partnership would not only drive economic growth and development but also help position Nigeria as a leading force in Africa’s industrialization.
“Overall, these agreements and investments demonstrate the NCSP’s commitment to driving Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation through targeted Chinese investments,” Tegbe added.
Tegbe also outlined other areas of collaboration with the Chinese government and companies, including the enhancement of smart and quality education, improvement of healthcare services, advancement of communication technologies, strengthening of security infrastructure, and the digitalisation of key government facilities.
He also discussed plans to refurbish and upgrade equipment in select teaching hospitals across Nigeria.
Additionally, Tegbe spoke about an agreement between the NCSP and Chilwee Group, a prominent Chinese manufacturer of advanced batteries and power storage solutions. This partnership seeks to bolster Nigeria’s energy security, promote renewable energy, and reduce carbon emissions.
“Chilwee Group has committed to investing in Nigeria through a multifaceted approach, including sales, manufacturing, and potentially mining raw materials for the power storage value chain,” he said.
The Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership is steadily enhancing bilateral ties, with recent agreements and investments in the energy, technology, and manufacturing sectors poised to drive Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation.
