In the past months, the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom has been shaken by the sudden and untimely deaths.
On Thursday, March 14, 2024, a Nigerian identified as Oladipo Hafeez Gbajabiamila died after suffering complications from ulcer.
Dipo went to the United Kingdom to seek greener pastures and was later joined by his wife, Mojisola.
Unfortunately, he fell critically ill.
Despite medical care and efforts by healthcare professionals, Oladipo’s heart stopped beating as he gave up the ghost, leaving behind his wife and their children Abdulraman and Tunmishe.
Seven thousand euros has been raised by the community to support the deceased family.
Recall that in February 2024, Chidimma Ezenyili, a 37-year-old Nigerian woman who had been working as a caregiver in the UK, slumped while working and died two days later.
In January, Saheed Wahab, died just a day after arriving in the UK to pursue his master’s degree at Teesside University.
These incidents have raised concerns about the frequency of deaths among Nigerians in the UK and called for greater awareness of health and well-being.
Reacting to the news on social media platform, Temmy Omoileri wrote: “Condolences to the family. Nigerians don’t see any importance in life insurance policies. They’ll always make their departure a community business. We all should please take these things important and give family a better hope after we’re gone. Life is getting more harder day by day.
“Many abroad, once they depart, it becomes a fundraising. Please let’s embrace life insurances, at least for the sake of our little ones. I don’t sell insurance, but I’ve seen the importance of it with other people, especially Caucasians. I pray that the Lord comfort the wife and children and supply all their needs because it’s not a joke at all. Jesu a di won mu o,” she added.
Torty Mercy wrote: “Why these UK deaths? It’s becoming more frequent….I think over labor contributes to this, someone I know slumped and died in the UK too. God may we not be eaten while looking for what we will eat. May his soul RIP. This UK deaths are becoming unbecoming o. What’s going on?”
