The Northern Senators Forum, led by Senator Abdul’aziz Musa Yar’adua, has expressed its gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, Board and its Chairman, Akintunde Sawyerr, for the efficient rollout and implementation of the much-anticipated NELFUND Student Loan scheme.
Recall that President Tinubu in June signed the Student Loan Bill into law.
In a letter addressed to the President and the NELFUND board members, the forum highlighted its appreciation for the prompt actions taken to make the fund accessible to students across Nigeria, especially in Northern regions where access to education is often hindered by financial limitations.
The forum, recognizing the significant socio-economic and educational challenges faced by communities in Northern Nigeria, acknowledged the role of the student loan initiative in advancing regional stability, reducing youth restiveness, and promoting employment through better access to education.
The senators emphasized that educational support like the NELFUND Student Loan has the potential to reshape the future of Northern Nigeria by empowering young citizens with skills and knowledge critical for building a prosperous society.
Through this initiative, the Northern Senators are calling on northern state governments to raise awareness about the program, ensuring that more young people are informed and equipped to benefit from it.
The Forum believes the loan scheme will set a transformative precedent, paving the way for a future where young Nigerians, irrespective of economic background, can pursue their educational dreams and contribute meaningfully to the growth and stability of the nation.
