A man identified simply as Yemi, aka Aleeba, has been apprehended for kidnapping and raping an unidentified female undergraduate of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State.
Yemi, the tout who abducted the undergraduate along Bode Road in Ede on Sunday evening was described by sources in the town as being notorious for committing heinous crimes in the area.
One of the sources said specifically that the suspect took his victim to a lonely place where he raped her.
The source explained further that in the course of the act, the victim’s strident call for help caught the attention of the passers-by who rushed to rescue the undergraduate from Yemi’s grip.
However, the source said that a report forwarded to the police station over the matter led to Yemi’s immediate arrest by the police who thereafter transferred the case to the state Criminal Investigation Department at the command headquarters in the Osogbo area of the state.
Speaking on the development on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, simply said that, “According to the victim, the suspect committed the act alone.
He has been arrested and investigation has commenced into the crime.”
On its own part, the management of the Federal Polytechnic Ede decried the act and assured assured that justice would prevail in the matter.
The institution’s Protocol, Media and Public Relations Officer, Sola Lawal, in a statement, called upon students of the institution to remain law-abiding as security operatives are already on top of the situation.
The PRO’s statement read in part, “The attention of the management of the Federal Polytechnic Ede has been drawn to a recent case of rape incident which allegedly involved a female student and a notorious tout popularly known as Aleba, which reportedly occurred on Sunday, along Bode Road, Ede.
“We want to emphatically state that this act of lawlessness is not only barbaric but a bestial act that must be condemned in all its totality with attendant prosecution of the culprit.
“The management, in its avowed determination to protect the interest of the students, will definitely pursue this case to a logical conclusion and bring the perpetrator of this dastardly act to book no matter how highly placed he is.”
