The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, on 28 April 2026 in Ogun State, Nigeria, arrested and repatriated Chinese national Xu Qing, a fugitive wanted in Beijing, China, over allegations of a $245 million Ponzi scheme involving illegal absorption of public deposits.

The suspect was tracked and arrested at a factory in Olowotedo, Siun Village, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, after intelligence-led surveillance operations confirmed his location following a request from Chinese authorities.

Xu Qing is wanted by the Shinan Sub-Bureau of Qingdao Public Security over his alleged role in a large-scale financial fraud scheme estimated at over $245 million. Investigations showed he fled China to Nigeria on 5 November 2024 to evade arrest, prompting the issuance of a warrant on 12 November 2025.

According to the INTERPOL NCB Abuja, sustained surveillance led operatives to the suspect’s hideout, where he was apprehended on 24 April 2026 before being repatriated to China on 28 April 2026 under bilateral police cooperation arrangements.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening international collaboration in tackling transnational organised crime.

“The Nigeria Police Force will continue to ensure that Nigeria is not a safe haven for fugitives or transnational criminals,” Disu said.

He also urged businesses and employers in Nigeria to conduct proper due diligence, including background checks through security agencies, before engaging foreign nationals.
