The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has applauded nollywood actor Shawn Faqua’s wedding to event planner Sharon Ifunanya as an historic event in the country, following the couple’s decision to exchange vows aboard a moving train, the first of its kind in Nigeria.

The ceremony took place on the Lagos–Ibadan rail line, departing from the Mobolaji Johnson station in Alagomeji-Yaba, Lagos, where one of the coaches was transformed into a beautiful wedding venue complete with floral décor, bridesmaids, groomsmen, and officiating ministers.

Reacting to viral videos from the ceremony, the NRC shared a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, praising the creativity behind the wedding.

“From lovebirds to locomotives, we’re keeping things on track. History made, the first-ever wedding on a moving train in Nigeria. A proof that the journey can be just as beautiful as the destination. At NRC, every ride tells a story,” the agency wrote.

The unique celebration drew massive attention online, with many Nigerians describing it as a refreshing twist on wedding celebrations and a creative showcase of love and innovation in the entertainment space.

The event was attended by several celebrities, including Stan Nze and his wife, Blessing, as well as actor Bucci Franklin, who were spotted celebrating with the couple aboard the train.

Weddings in Nigeria are known for their glamour and creativity, but hosting one aboard a train marks a new milestone for experiential events in the country.
