The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested five suspected fake security agents and seized a pump-action rifle during a coordinated sting operation in Anambra state.
State commandant, Maku Olatunde, who paraded the suspects at the NSCDC headquarters in Awka on Wednesday, said the arrests followed a series of coordinated raids conducted on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, across several hotels and grocery outlets in the state capital.
According to him, the intelligence-led operation was launched after credible reports indicated that some individuals were posing as private security agents and might have been recruited by political actors to cause unrest ahead of the Anambra governorship election.
Olatunde identified the suspects as Mmeka Ekene (43), Peter Detuchi Kelvin (28), Sunday Akpan Idiong (45), Enemuo Ifeanyichukwu (26), and Francis Ugochukwu Nwosu (28).
He said the arrests were carried out by the private guard companies department of the command as part of efforts to rid the state of impostors, criminal gangs, and illegal firearm holders.
“We are resolute in our commitment to providing a secure environment for the conduct of the forthcoming governorship election.
“The command will not tolerate individuals disguising as private security operatives to destabilise the peace enjoyed in Anambra state,” Olatunde stated.
He added that the NSCDC had intensified surveillance and improved intelligence gathering to foil any attempts by disruptive elements or desperate politicians to compromise public safety or the electoral process.
The suspects, he said, are currently undergoing interrogation and will face prosecution upon completion of investigations.
