She made the submission, yesterday, during her visit to the 2022 Batch ‘C’ stream 2 Corps members deployed to Lagos State for the service year at the orientation camp, Iyana-Ipaja. Uba said during the pandemic, NYSC members were at the forefront in developing innovative projects in communities and deployed both human and material resources at their disposal to assist government fight the Coronavirus, while also contributing financially for the development of citizens. Uba said corps members should be recognised for their positive contributions in policy-making and other development in the country such creation of employment, unity and integration despite the insecurity threats across the country. She also charged politicians to ensure the security of corps members and not jeopardise their safety at the forthcoming elections. Uba frowned at politicians engaging youths in anti-election activities, while calling on corps members that will participate in the electioneering exercise to be neutral, apolitical and not compromise regardless of any offers or having desired candidate for the leadership positions of the country. Uba also charged corps members to be security conscious and not leave it solely to security operatives, especially with the rise in insecurity in the country. She also charged corps members to avoid embarking on irrelevant journeys, specifically at nights and avoid free rides from undesignated parks, noting that if they must travel, they should seek permission from the NYSC authority. Uba further urged corps members to be of good conduct and character, while advising them to shun cultism, drug addiction and cyber crime. The NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Yetunde Baderinwa, said a total of 2540 corps members were registered and sworn in for the orientation course for the service year in the state, while others are in neighbouring state due to unavailability of space. She said the synergy between NYSC and other agencies have been successful, while commending the Lagos State government for ensuring the scheme is progressive with adequate provisions made to improve the corps members well being in the camp. Baderinwa said there are some challenges that still needs urgent action in the camp, such as ambulance service and speedy completion of the permanent orientation camp in Ikorodu to accommodate more corps members.
