The Ogun state House of Assembly has passed a motion for the release of the imprisoned lawmaker from, the Department of State Services custody, DSS, on Thursday, October 5, pending the completion of the investigation.
Honourable Damilare Bello was arrested in September 21, by the DSS in connection with the cult clashes that claimed about 20 lives in Sagamu recently.
Since his arrest, two weeks ago, the lawmaker was not granted bail, neither did he get charged to court.
A statement from the state’s Assembly disclosed that the the resolution was passed following a motion submitted by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, and backed by other members.
However, the members advocated for the bail of the detained lawmaker, explaining that the security agency could continue with their investigation while not depriving the lawmaker of his constitutional duty of representing his constituency.
They added that since whatever he was alleged was bailable, administrative bail could be granted to the lawmaker to allow him continue to represent his constituency pending the conclusion of investigation rather than allowing him remain in custody for over two weeks.
