The Ogun state government on Sunday, Febuary 8, announced plans to construct a 900-seater Artificial Intelligence-powered digital classroom complex valued at ₦1 billion at Remo Secondary School, Sagamu, as part of efforts to deepen technology-driven education in the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun revealed the initiative during the school’s 80th anniversary celebration, describing the project as a strategic response to the demands of a fast-changing global knowledge economy.
He said the new complex will serve as the foundation of a broader smart-education ecosystem within the school.
In addition to the AI classrooms, the state plans to provide a modern resource centre and a fully equipped robotics laboratory to foster innovation, creativity, and advanced digital skills among students.
“As a first step, I am pledging N100 million to this institution. I will release half of this amount, N50 million, next week. Furthermore, I am committed to ensuring that before I leave office, at least one of the planned projects will be started and completed,” the governor stated.
Abiodun also noted ongoing infrastructure improvements at RSS, including upgraded science laboratories fitted with modern instructional tools that meet current safety and learning standards.
Both the boys’ and girls’ hostels have been rehabilitated to enhance student comfort, security, and overall wellbeing.
Reflecting on the school’s milestone, Abiodun described RSS as more than just an academic institution.
“We are not only celebrating a school; we are celebrating a living institution,” he said.
He praised the alumni for their continued involvement in preserving the school’s heritage and supporting its growth, calling their contributions vital for maintaining high standards of excellence.
“These are not just assets; they reflect belief in the future, a shared commitment, and proof of what is possible when vision meets dedication. I have realized that this school is a heritage institution, collectively nurtured and sustained through shared responsibility,” the governor added.
Abiodun also announced that Remo Secondary School has been designated as one of Ogun State’s flagship schools.
He urged students to approach their education with dedication and integrity, maintaining the tradition of excellence established by previous generations.
