Three suspects have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command in connection with an attempted murder of a commercial motorcycle rider identified as Tijanni in the Afonta area of Abeokuta.
The suspects have been identified as Monsuru Musa, Adija Monsuru, and Shehu Dikko.
According to information gathered from a police source, the incident occurred on Monday, March 4, at 6:10 pm, leaving the commercial motorcyclist with severe injuries to his head, neck, and lower lip.
The altercation reportedly began when Monsuru hailed Tijanni for a ride to the Soyeye area from Lafenwa in Abeokuta.
However, upon reaching an isolated spot just before the Soyeye community, Adija requested Tijanni to stop the motorcycle, ostensibly to call her friend who would also be traveling the same route.
Soon after Adija made the call, two additional suspects, Musa and Dikko, arrived at the scene and joined him on the motorcycle.
Allegedly, Musa and Dikko attempted to strangle the motorcyclist by using a rope, while she attacked him with a large piece of wooden board, causing him to cry out for help.
However, other motorcyclists, neighbors, and law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the distress call, apprehending the three suspects before they could escape.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, March 10, the Ogun state Police Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, revealed that the accused were part of a known syndicate and had conspired to steal the motorcycle before their apprehension.
She further stated that the victim had been transferred to a hospital for medical treatment, emphasizing the ongoing efforts of the police to ensure justice in the case.
She said, “The female passenger had borrowed the motorcyclist’s mobile phone because she wanted to call a friend who was traveling the same route. But two people arrived at the scene.
“The three suspects are members of the same syndicate. They specialize in stealing motorcycles. They have been arrested and will be prosecuted.”
