The Ogun state police command has paraded 40 suspected persons for various offences, including cultism, murder and armed robbery.
The state commissioner of police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji, while parading the suspects at the police command headquarters in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Wednesday, June 6, explained that the suspects were apprehended both within and outside the state.
Oladimeji said Michael Bob, Abdul Omotoyosi and Adeshina Idris, were arrested for conspiracy, armed robbery and stealing.
He said that his men caught up with the suspects and arrested them in Mushin, Lagos state, while a stolen Toyota car was recovered during the operation.
The police boss also paraded one Austin Omoh, who was allegedly involved in a robbery incident in Ogun state but was arrested in Maroko, Lagos state.
He added that a stolen Toyota Sequoia SUV with number plate AAA 631 HX was recovered from him.
The CP further noted that the police arrested one Wasiu Odubote for stealing and looting shops in Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode community.
He said that Odubote and his gang members broke into a spare parts shop on Old Ondo Road, but the timely arrival of the Divisional Police Officer and his team to the scene led to his arrest.
Oladimeji added that other gang members escaped while a tricycle with number plate GBE 144VX was recovered.
The CP equally paraded Adedapo Taiwo, Arogundade Idowu, Noah Jogunom, and James Abiodun, who were arrested in Kobape, Abeokuta, in their alleged ploy to disrupt the inauguration of the state governor, Dapo Abiodun’s second term in office.
He revealed that the suspects were found in possession of a Barreta pistol, live ammunition and charms.
The police commissioner added that, “in Atan-Ijebu, four suspects identified as Onasanya Opeoluwa, Friday Daniel, Otuneye Samuel and Ayanbade Owolabi were arrested for their involvement in cultism.
“The police recovered a locally-made double-barrel gun, a locally-made short gun, an axe, a dagger, a jack knife and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
“In the same vein, the police also apprehended Akindele Femi, Abodurin Afeez and Ishola Ayorinde for their affiliation with different cult groups and engagement in criminal activities.”
The police also arrested one Sulaiman Ajagunjeun and Opeyemi Adesegun in Itoko Forin.
Oladimeji noted that those arrested confessed to being members of the Aiye confraternity.
He also assured the public that the command will always go for the suspects anywhere they may be found.
