The decomposing remains of a 16-year-old boy, Lawal Wahab, were found with several organs missing along the Igbile-Ijebu section of the Old Express Road in Ogun State.
According to reports, Wahab, who lived with his grandmother, had been declared missing by his father, Lawal Olumide.
His mutilated body was tragically discovered on Wednesday, July 23, with vital organs removed.
Confirming the incident in a statement released in Abeokuta on Saturday, July 27, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Omolola Odutola said the case had prompted the police to launch a thorough investigation into the brutal killing.
“Preliminary examination revealed that the victim’s head, wrists, heart, and genitals were removed, suggesting he may have been killed for ritual purposes,” Odutola said.
She revealed that two suspects, 25-year-old Salawu Omikansola and Serefusi Agemo (age undisclosed), have been arrested in connection with the killing, while other suspects remain at large.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) added that the victim had been buried according to Islamic rites and that the case file, along with recovered exhibits, has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for thorough investigation.
In a separate incident, Odutola reported that 22 suspected members of the Aiye cult group, including two soldiers, were arrested following credible intelligence that the group had gathered at the Hilton Hotel.
She stated that a joint tactical team, comprising operatives from Odeda Division, Aregbe Division, the Anti-Cultism Unit, and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, led by SP Adejoh Israel, raided the location at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Friday, July 25.
Recovered items included a cut-to-size locally made firearm, a UTC axe, and several blue berets typically associated with the Aiye cult group.
“The suspects have been transferred to the Anti-Cultism Unit of the SCID in Eleweran for further investigation. No casualties were recorded during the operation,” she added.
“The Ogun State Police Command is committed to flushing out criminal elements threatening public peace.”
Odutola explained that the operation was conducted as part of a wider effort to curb cult-related violence across the state.
