President Bola Tinubu met with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, and the political rivals exchanged pleasantries during the Jumat prayers at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement that the Jumat prayers were followed by the wedding of the daughter of former Gombe Governor, Danjuma Goje.
Among those seen at the event were National Chairman of the ruling Party All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and Senator Ali Ndume.
The Presidential spokesman described Atiku as an ‘old friend’ to Tinubu despite their political differences.
Onanuga wrote: “President Tinubu meets old friend Atiku Abubakar at the National Mosque.
“It was at the Jumat and wedding of the daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje.”
Atiku ran on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election, and finished second behind Tinubu.
The former Vice-President (1999 to 2007) has been critical of Tinubu’s administration in recent months as Nigerians grapple with soaring inflation, with costs doubling and even tripling in the last 17 months.
