The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Tuesday, February 10th, handed over a landgrabber to the Oyo state directorate of the Department of State Services (DSS) for prosecution.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the palace’s spokesperson, Adeola Oloko, the move follows a long-standing land dispute between the Akoto and Ojofeitimi families over a parcel of land along ICAST, Elebu area, Ibadan.
The Akoto family, represented by three individuals, laid claim to a portion of the land.
However, the Ojofeitimi family disagreed, insisting that the entire land belongs to them.
The two families had approached the Olubadan for intervention after disagreements over ownership escalated.
The Olubadan-in-Council invited both families in January to present their claims and submit documents proving ownership for verification.
The palace emphasized that no construction, development, or threats should occur on the land pending the outcome of the investigation.
The chairman of the Oyo state branch of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Ajibade Bashiru Bolanle, on Tuesday, presented the report of the investigation at the Olubadan palace in Oke-Aremo.
Findings from the state ministry of lands revealed that while the Ojofeitimi family’s survey plan was legitimate and possessed a red copy, the documents submitted by the Akoto family were found wanting.
The situation escalated when it was revealed that the Akoto family had ignored the Olubadan’s peace pact, as a member of the opposing family, Kunle Ojofeitimi, was severely assaulted during the investigation period, and he required treatment at Adeoyo State Hospital.
Three members of the Akoto family were expected at the palace on Tuesday; only one appeared.
The absence of the other two fueled suspicions that they were evading accountability for the assault.
Consequently, the Olubadan ordered the lone attending member of the family to be handed over to the DSS, while the other two remain at large.
The meeting was attended by several members of the Olubadan-in-Council, including Osi Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola Daisi; Asipa Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade; Asipa Balogun, Oba Abiodun Azeez Agagagugu.
Other notable attendees included Ekerin Balogun, Oba Mobolaji Akeem Adewoyin; Aare Mayegun of Ibadan, Chief Bayo Oyero, and President-General (PG) of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole.
