Olusegun Mimiko, a former Governor of Ondo State has returned to school to bag another degree.
He is looking to get a Master Degree in Health Law and Policy and recently completed the first-semester examination of the programme at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State.
Through the UNIMED Health Law and Policy programme, the university introduced the teaching of Medical Law into the undergraduate medical curriculum for the first time in the history of medical education in Nigeria.
It is being hosted by the Institute of Advanced Clinical Sciences Education, under the leadership of Prof. Leroy Edozien, a doctor, lawyer and pan-Nigerian patriot.
The programme, a swiftly growing field of Law covers issues such as consent, confidentiality, clinical negligence, mental health, public health, legal and ethical issues in reproduction, end-of-life issues and research governance.
At the postgraduate level, the University has instituted a Master’s degree programme in Health Law and Policy, with the hope to offer opportunities for doctoral degrees in the next academic year.
The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo is proudly Nigeria’s first specialized medical and health sciences tertiary institution.
Established by Mimiko during his time as governor in 2014, UNIMED has continued to blaze the trail in introducing medical programmes by providing integrated education and research of exceptional quality in all health-related sciences.
