One hoodlum killed, another arrested in gun duel with Ogun police

The Ogun State Police Command says it has gunned down another suspected kidnapper in Ilala forest around Imala, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun.

Recalled that The Street Journal recently reported that the state police command killed two suspected kidnappers in a gun duel.

The state’s police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a report by the Daily Post that one other suspected kidnapper was arrested inside the Imala forest.

According to Oyeyemi, policemen from Imala police station acted on a tip-off that six armed kidnappers were hiding in the forest.

As the officers stormed the forest, Mr Oyeyemi said there was an exchange of gunfire between them and the said kidnappers.

He added that other members of the gang escaped into the bush with gunshot injuries.

Recovered from the kidnap gang were one single-barrelled gun, one face mask and two pairs of sandals.

“Men of Ogun State police command, have arrested one member of a kidnap syndicate, while one was gunned down at Ilala forest in Imala.

“The DPO of Imala division, CSP Bernard Ediagbonya quickly mobilized his men, the hunters, vigilante men, so safe corps as well as Fulani youths stormed the forest.

“On getting to the scene, the hoodlums opened fire on them, and the team engaged them in a gun duel. In the process, one of the hoodlums was gunned down,” Oyeyemi said.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has directed that the fleeing members of the gang be hunted and arrested.
