Circa nineteen years ago, the wife of late Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Justice Atinuke Omoborike Ige (nee Oloko), graciously bowed out of mother earth.
She died on April 10, 2003 of a broken heart, after the star witness at her late husband’s trial recanted.
Since the death of her husband, Chief Ajibola Ige (SAN), on December 23, 2001 in the hands of assassins, Justice Atinuke Ige had been a strong pillar and matriarch till she died.
Justice Atinuke Ige who retired April 4, 2002 as a judge of the Court of Appeal, had proven herself as a jurist sui generis, with many firsts.
She was the first Ibadan female lawyer, first Yoruba female judge, first acting Chief Judge in Oyo State, first Yoruba female Justice of the Court of Appeal, and First Lady of Oyo State in 1979.
She was a shining model to the women who saw her as a role model. She carried herself with such grace and great humilty, and was very loving.
Left to remember her are her biological children –
Mrs Funsho Adegbola and Arc Muyiwa Ige, grandchildren, great grand children
and several other adopted children. May God continue to grant her soul sweet repose.
