Oyetola submits petition against Sen. Adeleke before Osun election tribunal

Osun state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Friday, August 5, submitted a petition against Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the tribunal sitting at the state high court in Osogbo.

Oyetola, who is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the July 16 governorship election in the state, approached the tribunal to challenge the declaration of Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the governor-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The petitioner, who was seeking justice,  challenged the conduct of election in 749 polling units across 10 local government council areas of the state over alleged electoral malpractices, and asked the tribunal to return their mandate to them.

In company with the embattled governor at the tribunal on Friday, August 5, were Kafayat, his wife, Prince Gboyega Famodun, the state chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, and some members of his cabinet.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, July 17, 2022 declared Senator Adeleke winner of the governorship election having polled a total number of 403,271 votes against 375,027 polled by Governor Oyetola.

One of the petitioners’ counsels, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), while speaking after the petition was filed, signed and sealed at the tribunal on Friday, August 5, expressed confidence in the substance of the petition to ensure victory for Governor Gboyega Oyetola and the ruling party, The Nation reports.

According to him, the legal team of the petitioners have established fundamental grounds to seek justice and ensure victory for them in view of the substance of the case.

Similarly, the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Gboyega Famodun, while expressing confidence in the substance of the petition, said, “By the grace of God, we will win the case and come out victorious.

“We are here to file our election petition to challenge the outcome of the July 16 governorship election in Osun state.

“We just filed it, signed and sealed for the tribunal to take over from there.

“A lot of people believe that we have a good case, and by the grace of God we will have a cause to jubilate at the end of the case,” he added.
