Oyo marks 50th anniversary of creation with coordinated air show (Video)

    Oyo State on Tuesday continued its week-long Golden Jubilee celebrations with a grand coordinated air show across key cities in the state.

    The event is part of a series of activities marking 50 years since the creation of Oyo State from the old Western State on February 3, 1976.

    The ceremonial air display was scheduled to take place over Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Iseyin, Igbo-Ora, and surrounding areas, thrilling residents and visitors alike. Some aerial displays were planned to continue into Wednesday, February 4.

    The week-long festivities began with an opening ceremony at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, followed by a cultural carnival stretching from Mapo Hall to Lekan Salami Sports Complex.

    The celebrations also included a gala and award night at the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan.

    The Oyo State government reassured residents of the safety of the air show.

    “As part of activities marking Oyo State @ 50, a coordinated air display will take place over Ibadan, Ogbomosho, Oyo, Iseyin, Igbo-Ora, and surrounding areas of Oyo State,” the government said in a statement.

    “Residents may notice aircraft flying overhead during this period. This activity is planned, ceremonial, and safe. There is no cause for alarm. Kindly remain calm and continue with your daily activities.”
