The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old man over an alleged rape involving a 17-year-old girl, describing the arrest as a significant step in its ongoing efforts to protect residents.
The Command made this known in a press statement released on Tuesday, noting that the case was reported on December 25 at about 7:00 p.m. at the Alakia Adelubi Police Division.
The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, explained that officers at the division received a complaint of sexual assault involving a minor.
Investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as Daniel Ajibola, allegedly committed the act after administering an intoxicating drink to the victim. Police authorities also disclosed that the suspect admitted to the offence during interrogation.
Following the report, the victim was immediately taken for medical care.
“The victim was promptly taken to a hospital for medical examination, while the scene of the incident was visited, and the suspect was arrested and taken into custody,” the statement read.
Due to the seriousness of the allegation, the Commissioner of Police ordered that the matter be escalated for further investigation.
The statement added that, in line with the seriousness of the offence, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for discreet investigation.
The Commissioner further warned that the Command would not tolerate acts of violence against women or crimes targeting any member of society, stressing that the suspect would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for his leadership and continued support, which he said has strengthened the Command’s resolve to uphold law and order.
Reassuring the public, the Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across Oyo State and encouraged residents to provide credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.
