The Oyo State Chapter of the Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR) and Socialist party of Nigeria (SPN) has called ?on the state labour leadership not to call-off or suspend the on-going strike action on mere promises of the government.
The groups also called on the state government not to further delay the unconditional payment of the three months unpaid salaries arrears and five to eleven months pensions being owed to both workers and pensioners in the state respectively.
Workers in the state are currently on strike in obedience to the directive by the national body of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to the states being owed salaries arrears.
The CDWR and SPN jointly arrived at this conclusion following hours of discussion and debate on the topic: “Mass misery in the midst of abundance and the role of the working people,” during a political symposium jointly organised by both organisations to mark this year’s Democracy Day in Ibadan. ?
It was held that the on-going workers strike in the state must not be allowed to linger unnecessarily, “because it is capable of deepening the anti-social vices among students in both primary and secondary schools who had been forced out of school as a result of the strike currently embarked upon by their teachers owning to the refusal of the Senator Ajimobi-led state government to pay their three months salaries arrears.
