There was panic in Bagudo town, Kebbi state, on Tuesday, December 30, after an explosion hit Bagudo general hospital.
The blast, which sent residents scrambling for safety and triggered immediate fears of a coordinated attack, caused significant structural damage to one of the buildings in the hospital.
Bashir Usman, spokesperson for the Kebbi state police command, disclosed that the incident occurred in the early hours of the day, prompting an immediate response from security operatives.
Usman said police officers, soldiers, and local vigilantes quickly secured the hospital premises, while specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit were deployed to investigate the scene.
Although one building in the hospital’s staff quarters was damaged, all occupants had evacuated before the explosion, preventing casualties.
The commissioner of police, Bello Muhammad Sani, has deployed additional tactical units to the area to maintain security and reassure residents.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the blast, and authorities have urged the public to stay clear of the hospital surroundings while experts conduct their work.
