The governor of Enugu state, Peter Mbah has stated that the South-East region may exiting it’s membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if the party fails to resolve its leadership crisis.
Mbah revealed this after a closed-door meeting was held at the state’s government house, on Sunday, June 30.
He stated that the South-East has the right to review its position in the party, especially if it continues to be sidelined.
Mbah expressed deep dissatisfaction with the party’s internal conflicts, describing it as a ‘never-ending circus.’
He said, “For the record, just as I stated during my interactive session with Fellows and Members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Enugu at the weekend, while I am still a member of the PDP, the south-east and that includes me and reserves the right to review our continued membership of the party if the party is unwilling to put its house in order.
“Among those who attended the meeting were Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo; Adolphus Wabara, PDP BoT chairman; Odefa; and other party stakeholders.
“Okwesilieze Nwodo, former PDP national chairman; Sam Egwu, Ben Obi, Josephine Anenih, and Udeh-Okoye were also in the hall.”
His comments came after the PDP South-East zonal executive committee met on Saturday, May 14 in Enugu and unanimously recommended Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the party’s national secretary.
The communique from the meeting, signed by South-East Zonal Chairman Ali Odefa, warned that the region could sever ties with the party if it is denied the opportunity to produce the national secretary.
