Peter Obi, a Presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, has announced his decision to dump the party.

Director General of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organisation, Dr. Doyin Okupe, made this public after submitting a copy of Obi’s resignation letter to the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja, on Wednesday.

In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party dated May 24, Obi said he had earlier conveyed his resignation from the party to the chairman of Agulu Ward 2 Anaocha local government Anambra on May 20 and consequently decided to inform him (national party chairman) of his withdrawal from the presidential primaries.

According to Obi, recent developments with the party made it practically impossible to continue participating and make constructive contributions.

“Our national challenges are deep rooted and require that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country.

“My commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm even if the route differs,” he added.

The decision of the former governor of Anambra State to dump the party comes days before the presidential primary is scheduled to hold.
