An Akure bound aircraft belonging to Associated Airline crashed shortly a fter take-off on Thursday. The chattered flight had passengers who were billed to attend the funeral of Ondo State’s former Governor, Dr Olusegun Agagu. The passengers included the former Governor’s family members. There are reports that Deji, son of Chief Olu Falae, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation was also on the plane which was believed to be carrying the remains of the late former Governor.
Tunji Okusanya, the CEO of MIC Caskets was also said to be on the flight.
About 20 passengers were on board the aircraft which had already gone about 200 feet off the ground before it came crashing within the local wing of the airport.
Incidentally, Dr Agagu once served as Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation.
Following news of the crash, President Goodluck Jonathan has cancelled all activities in the Presidential Villa. He has sent a high powered delegation to Lagos.
