The Oyo state police command on Wednesday, March 11, arrested three armed robbers in the General Gas area of Akobo, Ibadan.
The operation was carried out when officers on routine patrol intercepted a motorcycle rider identified as Abiodun Adeyemi Michael, who attempted to flee after spotting the officers.
He was, however, swiftly chased and apprehended by the patrol team.
Preliminary investigations indicated that he had been under police surveillance for some time and was involved in robbery operations across the Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo state borders.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a Magnum pump-action gun loaded with six live cartridges, 12 iPhones, five Redmi phones, three Tecno phones, one Samsung Galaxy S10, one Wi-Fi device, one power bank, one Oraimo radio, four wristwatches, and ₦130,000 in cash.
During interrogation, Michael confessed to carrying out robbery operations with three accomplices identified as Olaoluwa Pamole, Ahmed Ismail, and Lamidi, targeting residents around Egbeda and Toll Gate areas of the city.
Acting on this intelligence, the divisional police officer of Akobo division led a tactical team to the gang’s meeting point at Access Hotel, Sawmill, Onipepeye area along Iwo road, where Pamole and Ismail were arrested.
The third suspect, Lamidi, is currently on the run.
The gang confessed to a car snatching incident involving an ash-colored Honda in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
The commissioner of police, Femi Haruna, ordered that the case be transferred to the command monitoring unit for further investigation and prosecution.
Haruna also directed officers to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
He praised the professionalism of the officers involved and credited the strategic leadership of the Nigeria police force, led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu for the command’s proactive successes.
The command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
He added that individuals who may have recently lost valuables during robbery incidents around Egbeda and Toll Gate are encouraged to contact the command monitoring unit to identify and claim recovered items after proper verification.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
