Officers of the Delta state police command have arrested four unidentified cultists for murdering a man identified as Oyeme Eguari in Abbi, Ndokwa West Local Government Area (LGA), Delta State on Tuesday, December 31.
This was revealed via a statement by the state’s police spokesperson Superintendent (SP) Bright Edafe, on Wednesday, January 1.
Edafe noted that the incident occurred on Tuesday, December 31 during a crossover night celebration.
He said, “Yes, it’s confirmed. Four suspects have been arrested and handed over to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU).”
An anonymous male eyewitnesses stated that the victim, believed to be in his 20s, was gunned down by suspected members of the ‘Supreme Vikings Confraternity’ at a beer parlour on Ejakita Street, Abbi.
He said, “The victim was at the beer parlour having fun with friends when members of the Vikings Confraternity stormed the venue and shot him.
“This particular group has been responsible for several violent crimes in the community, including armed robbery, murder, drug trafficking, and grievous harm.”
The eyewitness also urged the Delta State Government and human rights activists to step in and address the growing number of killings in the area.
Adding that, “We are appealing for the intervention of the state government and human rights groups to help bring this issue to the attention of the Delta State Commissioner of Police.”
