The Bauchi state police command on Tuesday, January 27, arrested one kidnapper and rescued two kidnapped victims in Kirfi local government area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, said the operation followed actionable intelligence and was part of ongoing aggressive measures ordered by the commissioner of police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, to curb violent crimes across the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Habib stated that at about 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the police received information that a resident of Tudun Sullubawa, Bara village, Abdulhamid Mohammed, had been abducted by unknown gunmen at approximately 3:30 a.m.
He said a joint team of police operatives and local security outfits tracked the kidnappers to their hideout, where a gun battle ensued.
During the ensuing gun battle, police firepower overwhelmed the gang, killing one suspect and leading to the arrest of 60-year-old Abdulkadir Adamu, while other accomplices fled.
Two kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed and taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.
Exhibits recovered at the scene included locally fabricated firearms, live ammunition, cartridges, mobile phones, a backpack, a blindfold scarf, and other items believed to be linked to the crime.
The commissioner of police directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that all suspects connected to the crime are prosecuted.
