Police arrest man for defiling lover’s 13-year-old niece in Rivers

A 39-year-old man simply identified as Preye, has been arrested by police operatives in Rivers state for defiling his lover’s 13-year-old niece for a period of four years in Ada George axis of Port Harcourt, the state’s capital.

He was apprehended on Sunday, June 13, and is currently being detained at the Ozuoba police division, Obio/Akpor local government area of the state.

Mr. Boma Totty, an uncle to the victim, who is almost 13-years now, said the Preye had in December, 2019, visited his female lover but didn’t meet her at home.

Preye took advantage of the situation to defile the lover’s niece who was nine-year-old at the time, according to Totty.

Totty stated that, “There was a certain day he (Preye) came to our residence in December 2019, and it was only the little niece that was at home.

“So he grabbed her, and had sex with her. As of this time, the victim was nine years old.

“Thereafter, he took the victim to the boot of his car and brought out some fetish stuff.

“He brought out calabash, salt, pepper and powder, and told the victim to swear that if she ever reveals what was happening that she and everybody in her family will die,” he said.

The victim’s uncle noted that the girl cooperated with Preye out of fear by accepting to take the oath, and the latter continued to have his way with his lover’s niece, The Punch reports.

“On one of those days, she normally comes to the house with expensive things like jewelries and necklace,” he added.

“So we started asking her where she was getting those things. She refused to say anything. So my elder sister went to the school to find out some things.

“She later discovered that the girl has been going to school with money, sometimes, N5,000 would be found in her school bag, and buying things for people.

“As she came back from school, on Friday, June 10, we started interrogating her, and after a while, she opened up to us.

“So, we concluded that we would set up a bait to catch him, and hand him to the police.

“On Sunday evening, June 12, my sister sent him (Preye) a text, and requested that the perpetrator should come and pay the sum of money he was owing her or she would report him to his family.

“He came to negotiate the money with her, and we handed him over to the police operatives at Ozuoba after we apprehended him.

“Right now, the case is handled by the Ozuoba police station. All we want is for justice to prevail,” he added.
