The Plateau state police command has arrested a 23 year old student of the University of Jos, identified as David Nanpon Timmap, for killing and secretly burying his colleague inside his room at Rusau village in Jos north local government area.
The suspect, a 300-level undergraduate, was said to have attacked and killed Peter Mata Mafurai, 22, before burying his body in a shallow grave he had dug within the room.
Confirming the incident, the police said officers attached to the Laranto division responded to a distress call received around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
“Upon receiving the call, the divisional police officer led a team to the scene, where the suspect was immediately arrested,” the police said.
Detectives later discovered the shallow grave during a search of the premises.
The victim’s remains were exhumed and moved to the Bingham university teaching hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police said the suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the killing.
“We can confirm that the suspect has been arrested and is being interrogated. The command is conducting a full investigation to ensure justice is served,” the police added.
