Police arrests three persons over illegal possession of firearms in Osun

    Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with unlawful possession of firearms.

    Speaking on the incident in Osogbo on Wednesday, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Opalola Yemisi  said that the three suspects, all male, include Akano Olasumkanmi, Monsuru Ali and  one Tunde Alabi who claimed to be a welder were arrested for criminal activities and unlawful possession of firearms.

    She enumerated items recovered from the hoodlums to include, a cut to size locally fabricated pistol, ten locally made dane guns, one pump action rifle and one live cartridge.

    The PPRO disclosed how the hoodlums were arrested by the operatives of the state police command, saying that, “On  June 17, 2023 at about 12:30 pm, Police operatives of Safer Highway Patrol, along Okepa junction, Osu, Osun state intercepted Akano Olasunkanmi and Monsuru Ali, both of store village in ilesa on the motorcycle. The were caught in unlawful possession of a cut-to-size pistol.

    “In the course of a discreet investigation by the operatives of Anti-Kidnapping squad, Akano Olasunkanmi confessed to be the owner of the gun.

    “He further stated that, sometime in the year 2022, one Tunde Alabi of Agbede quarters, Toro Road, Modakeke, Osun State made the gun for him at the rate of N30,000.

    “However, the said Tunde Alabi was arrested and one live cartridge, one pump action and ten locally made barrel guns were also found in his possession.”

    The PPRO stated informed that the three suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigation for the law to take its course.
