The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command, on Saturday, February 21, confirmed that additional personnel have been deployed across Abuja for the area council elections.
The commissioner of police, Miller Dantawaye, said officers have been strategically positioned to safeguard voters, electoral officials, and materials throughout the exercise.
According to Dantawaye, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, approved the deployment of additional personnel from the force headquarters to reinforce the command.
He disclosed that another commissioner of police had been assigned to Abuja to support the coordination and monitoring of the election across all six area councils.
He noted that deployments began early and have largely been completed, with officers stationed at polling units to ensure smooth accreditation and voting.
Dantawaye further explained that the early arrival of officers was intended to guarantee the timely commencement of accreditation and voting, as well as the orderly conclusion of the exercise.
“Deployments have commenced and virtually concluded.
“For us, every polling unit, as at this point, should have men unless they are a bit late.
“Electoral materials, to the best of my understanding, have started to arrive at polling units from registration area centres, which is what we charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do.
“INEC is also very disposed to it; they made that commitment, so materials policemen have started arriving there,” he said.
Dantawaye urged residents to remain law-abiding and participate actively in the democratic process.
