The Ondo State Police Command has said that its Anti-kidnapping Squad, alongside other tactical teams, has been deployed to rescue some victims of kidnapping and arrest those involved in the crime.
Those abducted are said to be members of the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Igan, Akure, Ondo State. Our reporter learnt that the victims (number not indicated) were kidnapped by some yet-to-be identified gunmen at Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of the state.
Checks showed that the abducted persons are choir members of the CAC in Oke Igan, Akure who were on the way to attend a burial programme.
SP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Police Public Relations Officer in the Ondo State Command, said in a statement on Saturday, that the worshippers were kidnapped on Friday afternoon.
The statement quoted her as saying that “Yesterday afternoon, the police were informed that a church bus with the inscription of CAC was abandoned around Elegbeka area and there are suspicions that the passengers in the vehicle were kidnapped.
“The Police Anti-kidnapping Squad and other tactical teams have been deployed to the area to rescue the victims and arrest all involved in the crime.”
A close relative to one of the victims (pleaded anonymity), said that “the worshippers were kidnapped at Elegbeka after Ifon in the Ose council area while travelling for a burial ceremony.
“The vehicle conveying the kidnapped members, who are choir members, was seen abandoned by the roadside.”
Report has it that the Owo-Ifon Road has been a nightmare for motorists in view of the recurrent cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in the axis.
