The Oyo State Police Command on Friday arrested three suspected female kidnappers in Ikoyi-Ile, Oriire Local Government Area.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the suspects are 17-year-old Fathia Nurudeen; 17-year-old Taiwo Fatai; and 16-year-old Munirat Saliu.
The arrest followed a report by Islamiat Omowumi of Ikoyi-Ile, who received a threatening phone call from a private number on Friday. The caller allegedly threatened to kidnap her, demanded human parts, and insisted on a ransom of ₦10 million, claiming she was being targeted because she sells meat.
“The command wishes to inform members of the public of the successful arrest of suspected kidnappers following a threat report received by the command, demonstrating its commitment to proactive, intelligence-led and preventive policing,” Ayanlade said.
He added that detectives acted swiftly using intelligence-led investigative measures, which led to the suspects’ apprehension. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the act, claiming the threat was meant as a prank.
A small Itel mobile phone allegedly used in the incident was recovered from them, supporting the investigation.
The suspects remain in custody as police continue their investigation to determine appropriate legal action. The command also warned youths against engaging in acts that cause fear, panic, or threats to life, noting such actions are criminal offences with legal consequences.
Ayanlade reassured residents of the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged the public to report suspicious activities promptly to the nearest station.
