The Kogi State Police Command has named ASP Saliu Oyiza as its new spokesperson, marking the first time a woman has held the position in the state.
ASP Oyiza succeeds William Aya, who has been the Police Public Relations Officer for a decade.
During his farewell speech on Monday at the command headquarters, Aya expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the current Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Kankarofi, for allowing him to serve. He urged stakeholders to fully support the new spokesperson in her role.
“I have been the spokesperson of Kogi Police Command since 2015. It is now time for someone else to feel this big show. I am very optimistic that the new person coming on board will not only project the good image of the Nigeria Police force, but also ensure that she maintain good and cordial relationship with the general public.
“I want to use this medium to thank journalists, especially the federated and correspondent chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Kogi State Council, for their support over the years. I am imploring them to extend this cordial relationship to the new Kogi State Police Public Relations officer so that she can succeed in her new assignment,” he stated.
ASP Oyiza, in her acceptance speech, praised her predecessor’s professionalism and pledged to continue his efforts in promoting the image of the Nigeria Police Force in Kogi State.
William Aya was also honoured with an Award of Excellence by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi State chapter.
