The Gombe State Police Command has arrested 31 suspects following an extensive crackdown on criminal hideouts within the region.
According to ASP Mahid Abubakar, the Public Relations Officer, the operation was spearheaded by the Gombe Divisional Police headquarters’ Patrol 999 team, who meticulously targeted the black spots within the community to root out illicit activities.
While providing details of the operation, Abubakar revealed that the crackdown resulted in the apprehension of nine individuals suspected of involvement in illegal drug-related activities.
The raid also led to the confiscation of various suspected hard drugs, including dry leaves believed to be Indian hemp and exol yellow tablets.
According to him, “In a concerted effort to uphold public safety and combat illicit activities, at approximately 10:00 PM, the team, led by diligent officers, apprehended nine individuals suspected to be involved in illegal drug-related activities. Among the confiscated items were dry leaves believed to be Indian hemp and exol/yellow tablets suspected to be hard drugs.”
Among those arrested are Muhammad Mamuda Abubakar 19-year-old, Abba Sani 22-year-old, Ismail Usman 19-year-old, Abba Dama Sadiq 19-year-old, Isah Muhammad 25-year-old, Aminu Ibrahim 25-year-old, Sani Ali 21-year-old, Babayo Lawan 20-year-old, and Usman Muhammad 40-year-old.
Emphasizing the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in combating illicit activities, Abubakar stressed that such collaborative efforts are crucial for ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
He noted that a similar operation conducted by the team had previously resulted in the arrest of over 22 suspects.
The spokesperson underscored the unwavering commitment of the Gombe State Police Command to rid the community of criminal elements and safeguard the well-being of its residents. Operations of this nature, he stated, are essential for maintaining law and order and ensuring the overall security of the area.
