The Nigeria Police Force has announced a halt to the planned nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, which was billed to commence on Friday, January 2.
This development represents the fourth time the policy has been suspended since it was first rolled out in 2025.
The latest suspension is linked to an interim order issued by a court on December 17, 2025, in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025. The order restrains the Police from enforcing the policy until the substantive matter is heard and determined or the order is set aside.
The decision was made public by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, via a post on X, where he stressed the Police’s obligation to comply fully with judicial directives.
Hundeyin disclosed that the Police have entered an appearance in the suit, filed preliminary objections, and submitted a formal application seeking the vacation of the interim order. He also noted that the court has fixed January 20 for the continuation of proceedings.
“Accordingly, and strictly in compliance with the subsisting court order, the Nigeria Police Force has placed the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on hold nationwide, pending the decision of the court,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reiterated the Force’s respect for the rule of law, even as it continues to carry out its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.
“The Force will continue to deploy lawful, intelligence-driven strategies to address security challenges and safeguard public safety across the country,” he said.
Egbetokun further assured Nigerians that the Police would issue additional updates and clear directives once the court reaches a final decision, noting that all measures taken by the Force are guided by the need to maintain public order and national security.
